Electrical Tagging & Test and Tag Services
What Does “Test and Tag” Actually Mean?
All our test and tag programs are compliant with the AS/NZS 3760 standard which defines what to test, what tests to perform, how often testing should be carried out and what records should be kept. In easy-to-understand terms though, we give each item a good look, checking for physical damage like worn cords or dodgy plugs that could cause trouble. Then we plug it in and test how it’s actually performing. If it’s all good, we tag it with the test date, who tested it, and when it needs doing again. That way, no one’s left guessing.
It’s not just paperwork. When gear gets moved around a lot, like tools on site or appliances in shared spaces, it tends to wear out quicker than you’d think. Routine tests and tag checks help catch problems early – before they turn into something risky or costly.
Why It Matters for Auckland Workplaces
● It’s about keeping people safe – Faulty gear can cause electric shocks, burns, or even fires. Regular testing is a simple way to reduce that risk.
● It ticks the compliance box – New Zealand’s health and safety laws expect you to keep electrical equipment in good shape. Test and tag is a straightforward way to show you’re doing that.
● It saves time and hassle – When every appliance is clearly tagged, your team knows what’s safe to use. No guesswork, no delays.
Doesn’t matter if you’ve only got a handful of tools or a whole workshop full, staying on top of safety shouldn’t be a mission. We’ll help you sort out a plan that fits and keeps things in check.
How Often Should You Test and Tag?
● On construction sites or in harsher conditions? Every three months is usually the standard.
● In factories or workshops where the environment is still hostile and can lead to damage, testing every 6 months is recommended
● For warehouses retail or small portable items in an office then testing every 12 months is sufficient
● For office equipment that stays in one spot where the risk of damage is minimal, testing every five years is usually enough.
● Hiring out gear? It’s best to test it before each time it goes out.
Not sure when your gear was last tested, or think it might be overdue? We’ll check it over and help you set up a plan that fits how you work.
