Test and Tag / Tag and Test – do you need to do it?
Mon April 4th 2022
We often get asked by prospective customers if testing and tagging is something they HAVE to do. We answer your questions.
Test & TagWe’ll design a test and tag program to suit your specific needs, and compliance with the AS/NZS 3760 safety standard. Each item gets tested according to its classification. This means your equipment will be tested properly, at the right intervals – and we keep detailed records to prove it. We carry out testing at your workplace at a time to suit you, so your business activity can continue with a minimum of disruption.
You’ll get a full report of our testing results, including registers for all tests, failed items, repaired and out of service items, and all assets. We also document any items that don’t need testing and why.
These reports go into a business asset register that records vital information: the equipment tested; the make, model and serial number of each item; and their physical location. The register is important proof that your business is Health and Safety compliant, and keeps you up to date with the condition of your equipment.
To meet safety standards, you’ll need to have your electrical equipment tested and tagged regularly. Each item class has a frequency requirement – that is, how often the item needs to be re-tested. But you don’t have to worry that you won’t be compliant. LecSafe keeps a record of all your equipment, which we make available to you for your records. We design a testing program for your business that ensures each item is tested and tagged to standard, with no lapses – and no worries.
You’ll find our testing program efficient because we use up-to-date equipment. Our tags are thermal printed, with a bar code and unique ID number for each item tested. That way we keep a detailed history of each piece of equipment in our database, instantly identified by its unique number. The tags are also colour-coded to a test cycle, so you and your staff can see at a glance if an item is still current. We supply a workplace poster that is updated with the tag colour of each testing cycle.
LecSafe charges per test, not by the hour. Once we have your assets and their ID numbers in our database, you’ll know exactly how much to budget for testing and tagging. We’ll also provide extra tags and a register process for any new items you add to your business, so they can be tested in the next cycle.
Often equipment failure is simply due to damaged leads or plugs. LecSafe can repair these on site so you can get back to using your items right away. Find out more about repairs here.
